this is why it wins. everything.
no actually this can be a very harmful message to be sending to…anyone.
Love is not being asked or expected or needed to put your needs before someone else’s.
Love is when both people’s needs are met mutually.
Love is safe.
STOP ROMANTICIZING THE NOTION THAT YOU HAVE TO GO THROUGH PAIN AND TURMOIL TO PROVE YOU LOVE SOMEONE.
STOP LOOKING INTO THIS MOVIE SO FUCKING MUCH ITS GEARED TOWARDS CHILDREN THAT WILL NOT LOOK THIS DEEPY INTO IT.
Uhhhhhhhh yeah they will. There is an entire generation of women who grew up on Snow White and Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella and then woke up one day realizing that the notion of needing a man to define or save you was really fucked up.
This. Exactly fucking this.
No, fuck that shit man. First and foremost, what a horribly shitty thing to do to another human being. A person… a real live person out there found beauty in a sentiment from a movie. Which is great. But then you guys roll along and tell them they’re wrong? That’s a fucking harmful message. Varsitypink straight up just tried to share a piece of something they cared about with the world and you show up and force them to see it in your own shitty interpretation? Shits fucked up. What a horrible thing to do to someone. And look, you’re absolutely entitled to your opinion. And you know what? I can totally see where your “harmful message” argument is coming from. But you know what else? I doubt very seriously thats the intention of Olaf’s words. What you’re missing in your argument is that this can be a harmful message. Can being the operative word. But “can” doesn’t mean “is.” Look at those fucking gifs. Go on, look. What in those images makes you think Anna is expecting or needing Olaf to stick around while she dies? Olaf stating “Love is putting someone else’s needs before yours” is definitive of his character… Someone who would do absolutely anything for his friends, without being asked. He’s fucking there for them. He’s not trying to prove his love at all, that is just something he believes in. IT IS NOT ABOUT PROOF AT ALL. He cares for Anna. She’s dying. And he’s going to stick around and comfort her because he knows she’d do the same for him. In fact, not two seconds before she does try to save his life. She tries to turn him away so he doesn’t have to melt. I know, I know, thats harmful to him. But he’s trying to take care of her, and if you don’t think that’s fucking awesome, then fuck you. That is two people meeting one anthers fucking needs mutually. You want Olaf to roll up and listen to her? “Please Olaf, you can’t stay here; you’ll melt.” “Oh, okay. See you later!” Fuck. That. And where in this image does it say that Anna needs a man to help her? Where the fuck did that argument come from? She asked for help. As she was dying. I’ll even give you the benefit of the doubt and we’ll just say that Olaf is, for all intents and purposes, a “man.” At NO POINT does Anna say “Please! Help! I need a man to save me!” She just asks for help in general! Olaf just happened to be the one to give it to her.
So yeah. Fuck you for shitting on someone directly to their face. Have your opinion about the movie, but be fucking respectful to other people’s. And please try to make your arguments in context to what you’re arguing against. I understand your message, and I agree with it. But those dangers aren’t at all present in this scene.
